MapMess

Privacy Policy

Overview

MapMess is a photo map service. Because photos can contain precise locations and private visual details, you should treat every upload and visibility choice carefully. This Privacy Policy explains what MapMess may collect, how it is used, and what happens when you make photos shared or public.

MapMess is designed to use only the information needed to provide the service. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use your photos, location, or account information for advertising profiling.

Information We Process

If you sign in, MapMess uses your account session to identify your own photos and show account controls. Anonymous visitors can view the map and public photos without signing in. Authenticated users can also view their private photos and photos shared with them.

MapMess may process account/session data, photo files, generated previews and thumbnails, upload timestamps, visibility settings, share tokens, view counts, photo coordinates, server logs, device/browser information, and approximate network information needed for security and operation.

Library uploads may use embedded EXIF GPS coordinates to place a photo on the map. Browser geolocation is requested only when you choose location-based actions, such as centering the map on your current position or preparing the camera flow. You can deny or revoke browser geolocation permission, but some location features may not work.

How We Use Information

MapMess uses information to provide photo upload, map display, gallery, sharing, public visibility, account, moderation, abuse prevention, security, diagnostics, and service maintenance features.

MapMess may create resized images, previews, thumbnails, and social sharing previews so photos can load efficiently on the map, in the gallery, and in services where you intentionally share a link.

Cookies, Storage, And Analytics

MapMess uses cookies and similar browser storage for authentication, sessions, saved map state, service functionality, security, and basic analytics. Some map state may be stored in your browser, such as a recent location or the last photo-centered view, so the map can restore a useful position.

Third-party services used by MapMess, such as map, authentication, hosting, or analytics providers, may process data under their own policies. By using MapMess, you agree to this use of cookies and browser storage.

Photo Visibility

By default, uploaded photos are visible only to their owner. If you create a share link or make a photo public, other people may access the photo, generated previews, thumbnails, metadata needed to display it, and its related location.

Share links may allow token-authorized access without login. Public photos are visible to anonymous visitors. Shared or public content may be copied, saved, linked, indexed, cached, or previewed by third parties outside MapMess control, including social networks and messaging apps.

Location And Safety

Precise photo locations can reveal homes, workplaces, schools, routines, travel patterns, private property, or sensitive places. Do not make photos public if disclosure of the image or its location could create a privacy, safety, employment, family, legal, or personal risk.

We strongly recommend that you do not make photos public if they show you or other identifiable people. It is strictly prohibited to make public any photo showing an identifiable or recognizable minor. MapMess may cancel public visibility, delete such photos, or block the account responsible.

Retention And Deletion

Deleting an owned photo permanently removes the stored image objects and the related database record from active MapMess storage. MapMess does not provide a trash or recovery flow. Copies, previews, caches, logs, backups, recipient downloads, third-party previews, or search/cache records outside MapMess control may persist.

MapMess is not a guaranteed photo archive, backup, or secure storage system. You should keep your own copies of any photos you want to preserve.

Moderation

MapMess may review, monitor, scan, hide, make private, remove, or permanently delete uploaded photos and related records at its discretion for privacy, safety, abuse prevention, legal, operational, product-quality, or policy reasons.

Changes

MapMess may update this Privacy Policy as the service develops. Continued use of MapMess means you accept the current version of this Privacy Policy.
